My wife and I are back from Mexico, where we had a wonderful time. This was one of the best trips we have ever taken, and I want to say a big "MERCI!" to you for helping to set this up. Everything went well - the hotels were excellent, the food was great, the itineraries worked well, the guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, the activities were interesting, everyone was welcoming, the flights went as scheduled, and to sum, this was just a terrific experience.
Once I get caught up with all of the mail and other home tasks that await me, I hope to go to TripAdvisor.com and give high recommendations to everyone.
Terra Maya is a great organization: you get my full endorsement.
If I might, I'd like to share a couple of small itinerary changes that we made that might be helpful for you to know (to use with other clients).
1. On Day #1, we originally planned to do Teotihuacan and then el Zócalo Central. Day #2 was the Virgin of Guadalupe and then Xochimilcho.
At our guide's suggestion, we instead did Teotihuacan and then the Virgin of Guadalupe on Day #1, then Zócalo and Xochimilcho on Day #2. In other words, we switched el Zócalo with the V. of G. We did this for geographical regions: Teotihuacan and the V. of G. are both north of Mexico City, which meant we could do Teotihuacan and then hit the V. of G. on the way back to the city; and on day #2, we had a leisurely start just outside our hotel, then went south to Xochimilco (instead of going north to V. of G., then crossing back through the city to go south to Xochi).
2. On our first full day in Mérida, we had planned to swim in the cenotes in the morning, then go to Uxmal in the afternoon. Our guide suggested the opposite - which turned out to be a great suggestion, for Uxmal was hot, and the swim in the afternoon was a refreshing way to cool off.
These two small suggestions might help make slightly better planning for future clients with similar itineraries.
Again, Claudia and I had a terrific trip. We enjoyed it immensely.
Could you do me a small favor? Call Ermilo Concha to ask if he gave our room key to the owner of Hacienda Mérida. I discovered the key in my pocket after we had already checked out of the hotel and were on the road, so gave the key to Ermilo and asked him to turn it in to Hacienda Mérida for me.
Thanks for your help in putting together this vacation itinerary on such short notice - I usually plan about 4 or 5 months ahead for a trip like this, but that wasn't possible this time (do to job related issues).
